Here are some of my favorite sites, all extraordinarily valuable to savvy musicians. They are listed in alphabetical order.

Artful Manager, The. "Andrew Taylor on the business of arts & culture." Taylor runs stories on the intersection of art and business.

Arts Journal. Each day, arts journal posts some of the most important news stories from around the world dealing with music and the other arts, drawn from over 100 newspapers, magazines, and e-publications. One of the best ways to stay current.

Career Encouragement Blog, The, The. "Daily encouragement for your career journey." Offers all kinds of useful advice.

Entrepreneur The Arts. This site's blog features stories by a dozen artists from various disciplines. The slogan "Innovation Through Artistry" sums up their mission and emphasis.

Musician Wages. "The Website for Working Musicians." Loaded with outstanding articles geared specifically towards working musicians.

Musical America. Musical America maintains comprehensive directories for just about anything you can dream up in the music industry: record labels, festivals, managers, orchestras, competitions, music schools, etc. Online, however, this is only accessible to members. They also publish this information in an annual magazine, which is available to members and at most libraries.

NewMusicBox. A fantastic web magazine focusing on contemporary music and musicians. Features artist profiles, news of the field, practical advice, and more.

Onion, The. Because we can all use more laughter in our lives.

Savvy Musician, The. "Home Base for Music Careers." Features a Resource Center with 1000+ links, blog with music career postings, career and music videos, and more.

Sandow. "Greg Sandow on the future of Classical Music." Sandow often posts provocative and intriguing articles. There would be a lot more classical music in a lot more places if everyone followed his advice.

Seth Godin's Blog.  Seth Godin is arguably the most important marketing voice on the planet. His blog postings are often both amusing and deeply profound. His writings have influenced my work as a musician immensely.

Ted. Ted offers videos of "riveting talks by remarkable people," focusing on "ideas worth spreading." Musicians are sprinkled in with other innovative leaders from many fields. Often inspirational.
